Chennai ended Mumbai's winning run with a 24-run victory in the IPL at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Chennai decided to bat first, but a meandering effort only produced a total of 165 for four, thanks to contributions from Matthew Hayden (35), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (31) and Subramaniam Badrinath (30).
Convincing win for Chennai in the end as they beat Mumbai by 24 runs in this all important contest. The victory means Chennai enter into the top half of the points table whereas Mumbai still hold on to their top position with 7 wins out of 9 games.
It was a steady beginning by Mumbai towards their 166-run target as the openers added 46 runs before Dhawan (16) departed. Tendulkar (45) did end as the top scorer for the side before getting out towards the end. Mumbai skipper looked ill right from the start and had retired midway before walking back towards the end with his side in a complete mess.
The moment he left the crease retiring ill, it triggered a collapse and the Mumbai middle-order was left tottering against a neat Chennai attack. Harbhajan (33) did make some effort towards the end but it was quite a big ask from him as Chennai strengthened their hold over the proceedings.
In the end, Mumbai were reduced to 141/9 in their 20 overs. Ashwin (2/22) and Thushara (2/16) bowled really well in the middle overs while Raina, Jakati and Tyagi were also impressive with their bowling effort
