New Zealand’s semifinal chances lessen a great deal after loss to Argentina.


Argentina scrambled to a 1-0 victory against New Zealand in a Pool A match at the National Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday.


It was the Antipodeans’ third defeat to Argentina in five World Cup matches.Facundo Callioni scored the lone goal of the match in the second half to cheer up the South Americans, who were on the losing side in their first three matches.With their second defeat in the tournament, the Kiwis’ hopes of a semifinal berth have been dealt a massive blow.


New Zealand play their last league match against world champions Germany on Tuesday while Argentina face Canada, so far the weakest team of the tournament.

Defending champions Germany were held to a draw by the Netherlands in a thrilling encounter on Sunday.

match between Germany and the Netherlands lived up to its billing as the game of the tournament as they drew 2-2 at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi


The result threw open the group with the Dutch retaining their place at the top of the table with 10 points while Germany follow with eight. This leaves New Zealand (six) and Korea (four) with outside possibilities of semi-final berths. Argentina and Canada are already out of the tournament.


Germany next play New Zealand while the Netherlands take on Korea on Tuesday in what are now virtual quarterfinals.
